Theme: Time is an essential element of science, philosophy, and religion. Nonetheless its definition has continuously eluded the greatest minds. For In Time, The Kiernan Gallery welcomes images that interpret and define Time as subject matter, whether it be in a historical context of the then and now, time lapse, events and the intervals between them, or a crucial moment, preserved for eternity. In a sense, every photograph is an embodiment of time.

Juror: Blake Fitch
Blake Fitch received her BFA on full scholarship from Pratt Institute (1994), with a major in photography and a minor in photo history. She earned her MA in Arts Administration from Boston University in 2001. Documentary in nature, Fitch’s work has focused on the human condition, including themes of: identity, rites of passage, civil rights, belonging and the investigation of community in third world countries. Her work has been described as graceful and confident. The quality and breadth of her imagery has enabled her to receive a variety of grants and sponsorships including support from Kodak and Calumet Photographic. Her work has been exhibited internationally and held in the collections of numerous museums, including the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Worcester Art Museum, and the George Eastman House of Photography.

All selected images will be published in a full color exhibition catalogue

General Information:

Soho Photo Gallery of New York City is pleased to announce its 7th Annual Alternative Processes Competition. Our juror, Michael Mazzeo, will choose approximately 35 photographs which will appear in Soho Photo’s main exhibition space during the month of November, 2011. Prizes will be awarded at the opening reception on Nov. 3 from 6–8 pm.

Eligibility:

The competition is open to all U.S. residents, age 18 and older, excluding current members of Soho Photo Gallery. Alternative processes include (but are not limited to): Albumen, Cyanotype, Van Dyke Brown, Platinum/Palladium, Gum Bichromate, Bromoil, Salt Print, Tintype, Ziatype, Daguerreotype, Image Transfers, Liquid Emulsion and Photogravure. Traditional Silver Gelatin Prints, C-Prints and Digital Prints are not eligible; however handmade prints created from digital negatives are welcome. We cannot accept free-standing work or images larger than 4 feet in any direction.
