THE VIPA 2012 – CALL FOR ENTRIES

KUNSTNETZWERK (modern contemporary art gallery and network), Raed Bawayah (photographer), in collaboration with « Eyes-On » European Month of Photography Vienna, are pleased to announce the Open Call #1st edition of the Vienna International Photographic Awards «VIPA 2012 » for documentary photography.
Participation is open to professional, non-professional and student photographers from any country. Submission must be a single photo or a series, which focus on documentary photo-reportages such as social, cultural, political or environmental issues.
Besides the total value of 7.000 EUR in money prizes the short-listed winners will be published in the VIPAʼs official catalogue. The 3 finalists will take part in a group exhibition in November 2012 in Vienna (during the European Month of Photography). The awards will be divided into three sections: 1st prize (4.000 EUR), 2nd prize (2.000 EUR) and 3rd prize (1.000 EUR). The awards ceremony and the group exhibition opening will be held on the 15th November 2012 in Vienna.
Winners will be selected by our panel of highly esteemed judges: Michael Ackerman (photographer, U.S.), Raed Bawayah (photographer, PS), Carola Dertnig (lecturer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, A), Thomas Licek (director of « Eyes-On » European Month of Photography Vienna, A), Hannamari Shakya (curator and editor of Photo Raw Magazine, FIN), Horst Stasny (photographer and curator, A).

Migration: Stories of a Journey – photography competition

I. The work of each applicant should address the following concept:
Migration, Stories of a Journey

II. Artwork
1. Each applicant will need to submit a photographic essay consisting of three digital
images that explore one of the following:
a) migrants’ struggle and difficulties as they seek a better life in their adopted country.
or
b) migrants’ accomplishments and contributions as successful members and leaders in their
adopted country.
2. Images may be digitally enhanced for colour/contrast/brightness, but not manipulated.
3. The works submitted must be unpublished. Applicants must warrant that the
photograph they are submitting is their own work and that they own the copyright for it.
4. Each applicant will retain the copyright of their own work.

III. Fees
There are no fees to enter the competition.

IV. Participants
1. The prize is open to photographers of all nationalities based in the EEC.
2. Only one entry per person. Illegible or incomplete entries will not be accepted. Please note
that proof of transmission will not be accepted as proof of receipt.

Each photo must be saved in .jpg format at 72 dpi and to be no larger than 800KB, labeled
with the applicant’s name and its corresponding number of photo, for example:

The finalists will be asked to provide high-resolution images of the works submitted:

The CV, containing your phone number(s), should be saved with the applicant’s name, for

X. Consent
Participation in the competition presupposes the full knowledge and acceptance of these
rules. Events may occur that render the competition itself or the awarding of the prize
impossible due to reasons beyond the control of Accademia Apulia UK; the organisers
may at their absolute discretion amend or vary the Terms & Conditions of Accademia
Apulia Photography Award and the applicants agree that no liability shall attach to the
organisers as a result thereof.
The Jury’s decision is final.

The data collected will be treated in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and
will be used in connection with the Accademia Apulia UK and Accademia Apulia Photography

The SEVEN Fund is pleased to announce the ‘I Am an Entrepreneur’ photography competition. This competition recognizes the outstanding use of photography to tell compelling stories of role model entrepreneurs from around the world. Anyone globally is welcome to participate in this competition.

Each quarter, ‘I am an Entrepreneur’ features a new theme to inspire photographers and document a different aspect of the entrepreneur’s experience. The theme for April – June 2011 is entrepreneurship and education.

During 2011, the competition will award four (4) prizes, one every three months, over a period of one year. One finalist will be selected every three months, with a winning photograph for the quarter’s theme, and will receive a prize of $250. The grand prize winner (selected from among the 4 finalist photographs) will receive $1,000 at the end of the competition.

Often, the imagery associated with developing nations captures the misery that accompanies poverty. While it is important that these things are taken seriously and are documented, we believe that developing nations also represent tremendous opportunities for hope. The “I am an Entrepreneur” competition strives to reframe the dialogue around solutions to poverty by infusing the world’s imagination with new imagery that focuses on entrepreneurship. Our objective with this competition is to gather stunning photographs profiling individual entrepreneurs from around the globe.

The spirit of 7.7 is to become a new way of diffusion of photographer’s work that escapes from the traditional market’s logic and its dominance over the media’s agenda.

In this search we organize a yearly photo contest, selected from the individual photographers works published in 7.7. This prize, of 2000€, is possible thanks to the support of Photographic Social Vision, Editorial Blume and RUIDO Photo.

Terms and conditions:

1) Participation:

All the photographic works made by individual photographers and published in each year of publication of 7.7 (4 editions) will be considered. Works made by members of the team of 7.7, RUIDO Photo, or any other collaborator that has participated in the editorial process of 7.7, will be excluded. The third edition of this competition is open and will include works published since issue 9 to 12 inclusive. The receipt of projects is continuous and does not close during the year, but will can not submit for this contest after 15 October 2011.

2) Submission

3) Prize

A prize of 2000€ (two thousand euros) will be given to the work chosen as winner.

4) Selection

A special jury will be constituted to select the winner. The names of the members of this jury will be visible in the website, and they will meet before the 30 days after the publication of the 4th year’s edition of the magazine.

The decision will be communicated immediately .

The decision will be taken by simple majority of the members of the jury and can’t be appealed.

5) Jury

The jury will be constituted by members of Photographic Social Vision, Editorial Blume, Centre de Fotografia Documental de Barcelona, RUIDO Photo, 7.7 and members of the editorial council of 7.7

6) General Conditions

The authors of the presented works – accepting the conditions of the contest – authorize 7.7 to reproduce their work during the publicity that 7.7 will make of the results of the contest. All the images will be used including the name of the author. The license of use of the pictures will be Creative Commons. The author must to choose the type of CC license that consider for his/her work, by default will be Attribution – NonCommercial – NoDerivs (by-nc-nd) (no commercial use is allowed in the original work and the generation of derivative works). The submission of the material to 7.7 supposes the acceptance of the conditions of the prize.

Categories

With the category ‘documentary photography’ we like to see contemporary photographic narratives and essays that tell us what is going on with us and our planet. Unveil real world phenomena, people, issues and cultures. Photo narratives that marvel or confront us. In this category we are searching for the finest contemporary photojournalism.

Conceptual photography
The conceptual catagory is about true free artistic expression, about everything that is made up of idea’s, concepts, stage, make-believe. In the conceptual category we are on the lookout for the photo series that truly inspire us to free our minds, series that make an unimpeded political statement, or make us fall of our chairs from laughter. Submissions can vary from pure art, fashion photography to portraiture and everything in between.

Requirements

Every photographer, pro or emerging talent above 18 years old can enter the Viewbook PhotoStory contest. Also a representer can submit the work for a photographer. Every photographer is allowed to submit one photo story per category. You are free to submit already produced work or newly produced work.

You are free to choose your amount of photographs in your photo story. Obviously it needs to be a series and less might be more. All entries must fit in one of the categories; documentary or conceptual and need to be of enough creative and photographic quality to pass the pre-selection. At entry we ask you to give us the title and a description of your photo story.

As part of the initiative to promote gender equality in education, UNESCO Bangkok – along with the United Nations Girls’ Education Initiative (UNGEI), East Asia and Pacific (EAP) and South Asia (SA) – is pleased to invite entries for the Photo Contest 2009 on the theme of: Reversing Realities: Seeking Gender Equality in Education.

AWARDS
The 13 contest winners will receive official certificates of merit. The winning photographs will also be featured in the UNESCO Bangkok and UNGEI (EAP and SA) combined “Gender in Education Calendar 2010″, which is to be distributed widely throughout Asia and beyond. The winning photographs will also be posted on the organizers’ respective websites.

CONTEST CRITERIA AND CONDITIONS
Photographs should depict gender equality in action in the contestant’s country, featuring photos that: – show either sex, of any age, participating equally in various educational/recreational activities, such as computer repairs, ICT training, cycle maintenance, cleaning the classroom, caring for younger siblings, sharing household chores and involvement in various community activities, etc; …

Photographs must be individual prints in colour, or black and white and must be submitted with the original negatives or slides. Size: maximum 21 cm x 29 cm; minimum 20 cm x 25 cm.

For digital photographs, files must be in a TIFF, EPS or JPEG format with a resolution of at least 300 dpi. Digital photographs must be submitted on a CD-ROM, accompanied by A4 paper size prints (21 cm x 29 cm).

CONTEST SCHEDULE

Judging will take place in August 2009 at UNESCO Bangkok.

Have you been to an unusual event? Do you want to shed light on a subject or place that you are interested in, or would you just like to show off your best pictures?

If so then we want you to send us between eight and 10 photographs with captions for presentation as a gallery on the In Pictures page.

Photos:

Ideally, you should aim to take a variety of photographs – it’s a good idea to plan the story before you start. A good first photo would be one that introduces the subject to the readers.

Make sure you take some close-up photos as well as some wider pictures to show the subject’s environment, but remember to include something in the foreground to add impact.

When you take the picture, remember to look up or down to see what is around you. You might get a better shot if you kneel, or find a position to look down from.

The completed photo essay will have no more than 10 photographs, but you can send us more to choose from.

Make sure you have permission from anyone pictured before submitting the photographs.

Words:

Each picture will need a caption.

Who, what, why, where and when is a good place to start when gathering information for the caption, but where possible quotes from those pictured and a description of how you are feeling will help bring the essay to life.

We don’t need many words – no more than 40 per picture.

The Magnum Expression Photography Award mission is to discover and illuminate compelling documentary photography employed in innovative ways to affect social awareness and propel humanitarian compassion.

The inaugural theme for the award is Communities.

Criteria for Evaluation

* Excellence & inventiveness in building a photographic narrative.
* Singularity of vision and compassion for the subjects.
* Ability to produce a thought-provoking visual presentation.

Prizes
The winner of the Magnum Expression Award will receive an HP Designjet Z3200. Photo Printer and a package of media supplies provided by HP. The winner will also receive a $10,000 cash prize to support continued work on the winning project; the opportunity to produce a multimedia essay of the winning entry in collaboration with Magnum’s Magnum in Motion team; sponsorship for the production of exhibition prints on an HP Designjet Z3200 for a solo exhibition of the winning entry; a $3000 credit for production of the winning essay in book form on HP Indigo printers in collaboration with Blurb.com; a customizable PhotoShelter pro account and website for one year; and advice and mentorship from a Magnum photographer regarding the continuation of the winning project.

* Each entrant may submit from 8 to 15 images to illustrate a single photographic essay.
