For its fourth edition, the international photography festival Organ Vida announces its juried open call for photography submissions. The names of the authors of the works selected for the exhibition will be published May 20th at the festival website.

The theme selected for this year’s festival is DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHY.

The main characteristic of the documentary approach is that it emphasizes the priority of the subject over style through the use of non-manipulated photography.

Photographers from Croatia and abroad are invited to apply to the juried open call of the 4th Organ Vida festival. The selected works will be displayed at a gallery space during the festival, and 3 of the best works (selected by jury) will receive awards.

In order to be eligible for this open call, the documentary series must consist of a minimum of three (3) and a maximum of twenty (20) photographs. The series must be accompanied by a short description (statement). The photographs must not be edited, enhanced nor in any way manipulated. There are no limitations on the date when the photographs were taken.

We are very pleased to announce our second annual call for entries. Following in the footsteps of our very successful first season which astonishingly garnered nearly 200 entries from some 45 countries around the world and culminating in our $5000 USD grant recipient Mr. Mads Nissen of Denmark.

The Manuel Rivera-Ortiz Foundation for International Photography is once again seeking entries for outstanding work in global and social documentary photo reportage. Covering such pressing issues as health, poverty, oppression, war, famine, religious/political persecution and upheaval, human migration and immigration, the landless and much more, photographers of all nationalities who are 18 years of age or older are encouraged to apply.

Prizes: The photographer whose proposal is selected to receive the $5000 USD grant will be immediately contacted, followed by a public press announcement to be made sometime in late July.

The Magnum Foundation and the Inge Morath Foundation announce the 11th annual Inge Morath Award. The annual award of $5,000 is awarded by the Magnum Foundation to a female photographer under the age of 30, to support the completion of a long-term documentary project. One award winner and up to two finalists are selected by a jury composed of Magnum photographers and the director of the Inge Morath Foundation.

Inge Morath was an Austrian-born photographer who was associated with Magnum Photos for nearly fifty years. After her death in 2002, the Inge Morath Foundation was established to manage Morath’s estate and facilitate the study and appreciation of her contribution to photography. Because Morath devoted much of her enthusiasm to encouraging women photographers, her colleagues at Magnum Photos established the Inge Morath Award in her honor. The Award is now given by the Magnum Foundation as part of its mission of supporting new generations of socially-conscious documentary photographers, and is administered by the Magnum Foundation in collaboration with the Inge Morath Foundation.

- Images should be sent as a PDF document ONLY (no Quicktime, Powerpoint, or HTML files will be accepted).

World.Report Award 2012 Italian Photojournalism Award

The Festival of Ethical Photography of Lodi is pleased to present the second edition of the World.Report Award – Italian Photojournalism Award.
The Festival of Ethical Photography of Lodi, that will take place in Lodi from 12th to 15th of April 20I2 was created and is managed on voluntary basis. Its purpose is to bring the general public close to ethically significant contents using photography as communication and knowledge means and to offer different nuances of the fine relationship between ethics, communication and photography and has come to the attention of the public thanks to the quality level and the international dimension of the guests presented in the previous editions.The project area, to which World.Report Award is directed to, focuses on social and documentary photo-reportages such as people’s stories, social and cultural events and mankind changes.

The award is open to photographers from all over the world and who present social photography reportages. The participation is free of charge and has no age limits; also the exclusive of the reportage is not a required condition.

The cash award of € 3,000 is intended as a support for those photographers committed in this difficult area of photography that brings people’s stories to the attention of the general public.

The jury will be composed by the organizing staff of the Festival of Ethical Photography.

THE VIPA 2012 – CALL FOR ENTRIES

KUNSTNETZWERK (modern contemporary art gallery and network), Raed Bawayah (photographer), in collaboration with « Eyes-On » European Month of Photography Vienna, are pleased to announce the Open Call #1st edition of the Vienna International Photographic Awards «VIPA 2012 » for documentary photography.
Participation is open to professional, non-professional and student photographers from any country. Submission must be a single photo or a series, which focus on documentary photo-reportages such as social, cultural, political or environmental issues.
Besides the total value of 7.000 EUR in money prizes the short-listed winners will be published in the VIPAʼs official catalogue. The 3 finalists will take part in a group exhibition in November 2012 in Vienna (during the European Month of Photography). The awards will be divided into three sections: 1st prize (4.000 EUR), 2nd prize (2.000 EUR) and 3rd prize (1.000 EUR). The awards ceremony and the group exhibition opening will be held on the 15th November 2012 in Vienna.

I. The work of each applicant should address the following concept:

II. Artwork
1. Each applicant will need to submit a photographic essay consisting of three digital
images that explore one of the following:
a) migrants’ struggle and difficulties as they seek a better life in their adopted country.
or
b) migrants’ accomplishments and contributions as successful members and leaders in their
adopted country.
2. Images may be digitally enhanced for colour/contrast/brightness, but not manipulated.
3. The works submitted must be unpublished. Applicants must warrant that the
photograph they are submitting is their own work and that they own the copyright for it.
4. Each applicant will retain the copyright of their own work.

III. Fees
There are no fees to enter the competition.

IV. Participants
1. The prize is open to photographers of all nationalities based in the EEC.
2. Only one entry per person. Illegible or incomplete entries will not be accepted. Please note

The SEVEN Fund is pleased to announce the ‘I Am an Entrepreneur’ photography competition. This competition recognizes the outstanding use of photography to tell compelling stories of role model entrepreneurs from around the world. Anyone globally is welcome to participate in this competition.

Each quarter, ‘I am an Entrepreneur’ features a new theme to inspire photographers and document a different aspect of the entrepreneur’s experience. The theme for April – June 2011 is entrepreneurship and education.

During 2011, the competition will award four (4) prizes, one every three months, over a period of one year. One finalist will be selected every three months, with a winning photograph for the quarter’s theme, and will receive a prize of $250. The grand prize winner (selected from among the 4 finalist photographs) will receive $1,000 at the end of the competition.

Often, the imagery associated with developing nations captures the misery that accompanies poverty. While it is important that these things are taken seriously and are documented, we believe that developing nations also represent tremendous opportunities for hope. The “I am an Entrepreneur” competition strives to reframe the dialogue around solutions to poverty by infusing the world’s imagination with new imagery that focuses on entrepreneurship. Our objective with this competition is to gather stunning photographs profiling individual entrepreneurs from around the globe.

The spirit of 7.7 is to become a new way of diffusion of photographer’s work that escapes from the traditional market’s logic and its dominance over the media’s agenda.

In this search we organize a yearly photo contest, selected from the individual photographers works published in 7.7. This prize, of 2000€, is possible thanks to the support of Photographic Social Vision, Editorial Blume and RUIDO Photo.

Terms and conditions:

1) Participation:

All the photographic works made by individual photographers and published in each year of publication of 7.7 (4 editions) will be considered. Works made by members of the team of 7.7, RUIDO Photo, or any other collaborator that has participated in the editorial process of 7.7, will be excluded. The third edition of this competition is open and will include works published since issue 9 to 12 inclusive. The receipt of projects is continuous and does not close during the year, but will can not submit for this contest after 15 October 2011.

3) Prize

4) Selection

The authors of the presented works – accepting the conditions of the contest – authorize 7.7 to reproduce their work during the publicity that 7.7 will make of the results of the contest. All the images will be used including the name of the author. The license of use of the pictures will be Creative Commons. The author must to choose the type of CC license that consider for his/her work, by default will be Attribution – NonCommercial – NoDerivs (by-nc-nd) (no commercial use is allowed in the original work and the generation of derivative works). The submission of the material to 7.7 supposes the acceptance of the conditions of the prize.

Every photographer, pro or emerging talent above 18 years old can enter the Viewbook PhotoStory contest. Also a representer can submit the work for a photographer. Every photographer is allowed to submit one photo story per category. You are free to submit already produced work or newly produced work.

You are free to choose your amount of photographs in your photo story. Obviously it needs to be a series and less might be more. All entries must fit in one of the categories; documentary or conceptual and need to be of enough creative and photographic quality to pass the pre-selection. At entry we ask you to give us the title and a description of your photo story.

As part of the initiative to promote gender equality in education, UNESCO Bangkok – along with the United Nations Girls’ Education Initiative (UNGEI), East Asia and Pacific (EAP) and South Asia (SA) – is pleased to invite entries for the Photo Contest 2009 on the theme of: Reversing Realities: Seeking Gender Equality in Education.

AWARDS
The 13 contest winners will receive official certificates of merit. The winning photographs will also be featured in the UNESCO Bangkok and UNGEI (EAP and SA) combined “Gender in Education Calendar 2010″, which is to be distributed widely throughout Asia and beyond. The winning photographs will also be posted on the organizers’ respective websites.

CONTEST CRITERIA AND CONDITIONS
Photographs should depict gender equality in action in the contestant’s country, featuring photos that: – show either sex, of any age, participating equally in various educational/recreational activities, such as computer repairs, ICT training, cycle maintenance, cleaning the classroom, caring for younger siblings, sharing household chores and involvement in various community activities, etc; …

Photographs must be individual prints in colour, or black and white and must be submitted with the original negatives or slides. Size: maximum 21 cm x 29 cm; minimum 20 cm x 25 cm.

For digital photographs, files must be in a TIFF, EPS or JPEG format with a resolution of at least 300 dpi. Digital photographs must be submitted on a CD-ROM, accompanied by A4 paper size prints (21 cm x 29 cm).
