Profotio announces our current call for entry “Celebration!”. Celebrating and enjoying ourselves is one of those acts that people truly enjoy. Image Specifications:
- Any one person may submit an unlimited amount of entries, but no entrant may win more than one prize. Entry fee is $6 for every submission.
- Digital files must be in (JPEG or JPG format) 72 dpi and between 1MB and 5MB and must be at least 1,200 pixels wide (if a horizontal image) or 1,200 pixels tall (if a vertical image).
- Photo captions must accompany all submissions, and should include the subject of the image, the location the image was taken, and the name of the photographer(s).

Contest timeline
The World Press Photo Contest is an annual competition in which the jury looks for the best photographs made during a calendar year. Details about the photo contest, as well as names of the contest judges, are announced in October/November.

The photo contest judging begins at the end of January and the winners are announced in the second week of February. The annual Awards Days, a celebration of the prizewinners, takes place in Amsterdam at the end of April or beginning of May. The first edition of the multimedia contest in 2011 followed a similar timeline, but a different entry procedure. Details about the next multimedia contest setup will be announced later.

When to send in photos
Photographers can enter their pictures to the 2012 World Press Photo contest starting at the beginning of December. The deadline for submitting entries to the contest is 12 January 2012, 23.59 Central European Time.

Who can participate
Professional photographers, their representatives and publications for which work has been produced are eligible to enter photographs and series of photographs.

How to participate
A multi-lingual website for uploading entries will be available online in December. Participants first need to register for a user account and password, which can be requested between 1 December 2011 and 6 January 2012. Once their account has been activated, they can continue uploading and editing their entries until the deadline. There is no entry fee.

Images may be entered as single images or stories/portfolios in nine categories: Spot News, General News, People in the News, Sports, Contemporary Issues, Daily Life, Portraits, Arts and Entertainment and Nature.

From the beginning of December 2011 onwards, the entry rules, a description of the categories and instructions on how to enter will be available on the contest website in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French. If you have further questions, please send an email to contest@worldpressphoto.org.

Contest judging
The judging of the contest will take place from 28 January until 9 February 2012. The results of the contest will be announced on 10 February in a press conference at the Amsterdam City Hall and online.

To participate in the contest you must be 18 years or older, on the submission date and enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate course at any higher education institute, Curators appointed by Saatchi Gallery will evaluate all submissions and will choose 100 best submissions, A jury of photography professionals will choose 10 finalists. Winner: Jury will select 1 overall winner from the ten finalists. The Top 100 entries will get A Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone, Top 10 finalist work will be displayed at Saatchi Gallery, London for two months which will coincide with the exhibition ‘Out of Focus: Photography’. Three Categories for Awards in 2011:

Multimedia Awards
This year, we introduce an important new category to the Awards competition — Multimedia.

Presentations that combine photography, video, graphics and sound are becoming prominent headline features in the world of social networking, activism, fine art, and online news. Photographers are taking more and more control over how their work is edited, produced and presented. And we want to discover who is creating the most engaging multimedia projects today.

Multimedia from all genres and categories will be considered, including, but not limited to: current events / photojournalism / social issues / activism / fine art / conceptual / cinematic / fiction / storytelling / nature / other.

Maximum length should be 8 minutes. If your full-length multimedia piece is longer than 8 minutes, please submit an edit, or a trailer or teaser of 8 minutes or shorter. Winners will be shown in their full original length. Entry fee: $75.

Portfolio Awards
Submit 10 to 15 photographic images that work well together as a group — thematically, aesthetically, as a story, or simply as a range of your photographic talent. Edit your selections carefully, since this category will be judged on the strength of the group of photographs as a whole, and not as individual photographs. Entry fee: $75.

Single Image Awards
Often, a single powerful photograph captures our attention as important, artistic, meaningful, and memorable. A great photo can stand on its own, demonstrating a remarkable level of visual perception, sensitivity, and creativity. Photographs of all genres and all categories are welcome. Entry fee: $35.

25 Honorable Mention Awards:
25 Honorable Mention photographs or multimedia (chosen by the judges from all categories) will win prominent placement of a single image on the Award Winner’s Page in Lens Culture, including a link to your own personal or professional website. A few rules

The first contest will run from July 24-Aug. 31. After that each contest will run from the first to the last day of the calendar month.

Entry into a contest is free. Each member way enter up to 6 images per monthly competition.

All images should be no larger than 1MB in size. Images must be uploaded in JPG or PNG format only. After uploading an image into the Contest, the image may not be altered, modified, or replaced.

All submitted images for all Contests must be your own original work. Photographs taken by spouse, family, friends, or anyone other than entrant are prohibited. Presenting the inaugural ‘Wira Foto Fest Award’, an inspiring photography event in partnership with Kuala Lumpur Design Week 2011 Festival.

Over 1,000 photographs will be exhibited in an outdoor environment throughout the parks of Lake Gardens, Kuala Lumpur. The highlight of the ‘Wira Foto Fest’ is the ‘Wira Foto Fest Award’ but nevertheless, an invitational showcase which includes student experimental, travelogues, commercial assignments and project proposals will also be exhibited.

Professional and non-professional photographers from all over Asia are invited to submit photographs, both commercial and private work, to the ‘ Wira Foto Fest Award’ in the following categories:
