After you have uploaded your images and information, you will be asked to pay your submission fee of $75 for the Portfolio category, or $35 (to submit one photo) or $60 (to submit two to five photos) for the Single Image category. UNWTO is happy to announce the 2010 World Tourism Day online photo competition under the theme Tourism & Biodiversity.

What kind of photos are we looking for?
There is a direct link between biodiversity and tourism with areas of unique natural beauty attracting large numbers of visitors. Biodiversity is thus one of tourism’s greatest assets and fundamental to its long-term sustained growth. But, tourism can also be an important means to assure biodiversity conservation.

We are looking for pictures that capture the close relationship between biodiversity and tourism. Photos that reflect the value of biodiversity for tourism and/or the contribution of tourism in protecting and sustainably managing biodiversity.
Who can participate?
The World Tourism Day online photo competition is open to all people of all ages.

* 1ST Prize – Round trip and accommodation to China (Guangdong Province)
* 4 Runners-up will be awarded with a digital camera
* A selection of the best photos will be displayed at a Photo Exhibition to be held in China on World Tourism Day

Specifications

World Tourism Day 2010 website.

As always, we want gritty as well as pretty. The topic of travel is broad, so have some fun with it: Experiment with lighting, angles, subjects and composition. Start shooting . . . and surprise us.

One entry per person. Photo must have been taken in 2009-2010. Send e-mail entries to travelphotos@washpost.com. Photos should be JPEG or TIFF attachments, between 1MB and 10MB in size. Include caption information and when the photo was taken, plus your name, address and phone number, and put the photo topic (e.g., “Scotland rainbow”) in the subject line.

If sending by conventional mail, attach a sticker or notecard with your name, contact info and a detailed caption to the back of the photo (please do not send loose sheets of paper). Photos, which are nonreturnable, may be color or black-and-white, and in print form. Send prints to The Washington Post Travel Section Photo Contest, 1150 15th St. NW, Washington, D.C. 20071.

Entries must be received by July 26.

Photos become the property of The Washington Post, which may edit, publish, distribute and republish them in any form. No purchase necessary. Zeiss Images is pleased to announce the much anticipated photography contest which will award a brand new Zeiss 50mm Planar in either ZF2, ZE or ZS mount to the lucky winner. The prize lens will be provided by Zeiss. Their generosity is greatly appreciated.

The theme this year will be, “As seen through your eyes”. This theme will allow the photographer to express his or her vision without restricting the creative ability.

You can submit up to 3 photographs per category to the following categories. Landscape, Glamor, People, Nature and City/Architecture. These categories will be created later for submission of photographs. Do not submit them to the regular gallery categories with similar names. Upload photos via the gallery home page. Just put them in the appropriate category when uploaded.

A panel of judges will consist of individuals from two respected companies serving the global photographic community for many years. Popflash.com in the United States and RoberWhite.co.uk in Great Britain. The judges will review the photographs submitted and select the finalists from each category based on creativity, quality and originality. Each of these finalists will then be grouped into one final category where the winning photograph will be selected based on the same criteria used for the finalists selection.

This contest is an opportunity for photographers to showcase their photographs taken with Zeiss lenses. There are no fees or exchange of services required to participate in the contest. This is simply a way for ZeissImages.com to show it’s appreciation for members using the site free of charge. However, we will be showcasing the winners artwork on the site.

Win with your interpretation of Dr. János Szász’s amazing photography

An unexpected find from Pécs, Hungary is the estate of Dr. János Szász who lived and worked as a productive and inspirational photographer for most of his life. The oeuvre was discovered due to the Pécs – European Capital of Culture 2010 year, and represents the perhaps most important artistic discovery of the event! Hungarian photography has always been world class (just think of Brassai, Kertesz, Moholy-Nagy and many more), now you are invited to show your reaction!

Your reflecting photograph should somehow connect with the original. How so is completely up to you!

HOW TO ENTER?

Quickly check out the János Szász collection of 40 pictures below. Pick the one(s) that inspire(s) you and get to work. Take your own picture inspired by Dr Szász. Send it in!
