The judges for the 2010 edition of Red Bull Illlume will be announced soon.
JUDGING CRITERIA

Official contest judges will base their decisions on a mix of technical superiority, composition, creativity, impact, artistic flair and overall qualities of photographic excellence.

Pre-Selection Judging: Red Bull Photofiles

Rounds 1 and 2: Photo editor judges without Red Bull Photofiles

In case of a tie (in any round) Red Bull Photofiles will determine the winner.
PRE-SELECTION JUDGING

Red Bull Photofiles will choose 25 images from each of the 10 categories to advance to round one.
ROUND ONE

Official contest judges will receive a book of the 250 semi-finalist images. These images will be anonymized in order to maintain impartiality. Each judge will vote for five images in each category to advance to round two. After all judges have voted, the five images of each category with the most votes will advance to round two.
ROUND TWO

The five finalists of each category will be announced. Each judge will vote for one of the five finalist images in each of the 10 categories. Athletes will vote for one image from the fifty finalists. The image with the most votes will win the Athletes’ Choice Award.
PEOPLES’ CHOICE

Entrants to the three main categories may submit up to five photos per month to the Astronomy Photographer of the Year Flickr group and five photos in total to the Astronomy Photographer of the Year competition. Photos taken more than two years before the competition closing date are also not eligible (i.e. taken before 16 July 2008).

Entry Fee None

And we’d be really grateful if you could:

* share your camera settings as additional information about the photo
* if applicable, tag your photo with the telescope equipment it was taken with.

This technical information (‘astrotagging’) will help us to create a visualisation of the Universe from your photos on Flickr. We will also add some further astrotags and notes to group photos automatically. If you want to opt out of this, please add the tag astro:notes=no to your picture. You can also delete tags and notes if you want to.

Overall winner – Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2010 Prize: £1000, and more prizes for each category.

Copyright: For each photo that you add to the group on Flickr, you grant the Royal Observatory Greenwich a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, publicly perform and publicly display by means of the Flickr API (“Application Programming Interface”) your photo solely in connection with the Astronomy Photographer of the Year group, competition and exhibition, without any further notice or remuneration to you.

I’m sure an image sprang immediately to mind when you read the title of this competition. The male and female body have constantly performed for the camera throughout the history of photography – in ways that may seem natural, erotic, seductive, sculptural or simply descriptive.

There are many amazing photographs where the human body has been unwrapped and imaged in an exciting and unusual way. The surreal playfulness of Man Ray’s muse or Bill Brandt’s contortion of the female body in front of a coastal landscape are both great examples.

All sorts of bodies have found their way in front of the camera for many different reasons and a good image of a nude subject needs to play with a specific idea about imaging the body to bring us something, as well as someone, new to look at.

In the hands of a contemporary photographer we hope the body as subject will fire your imagination and encourage you to go beyond familiar ideas to create something compelling, perhaps even fun.

Send us your photographs of the human form in all its complexity – whether your visual opinion is driven by an aesthetic, documentary or, even a political perspective.

Eligibility:
Entries will be accepted from both UK and Non UK – overseas photographers
