The theme of this international photo contest is ‘how do you watch TV?’. Whether you are a professional or a keen amateur photographer, you could win some fantastic prizes! Besides that, your photo can get famous, as the photos will be published by Vogel’s in international marketing and communications campaigns.

How to enter?
For your chance to win, submit a photo that captures yourself, friends, family, partner, children or anyone else watching TV. Whether it’s a family at home watching TV with a bag of potato chips or a group football supporters watching their team play on a big screen in a pub.

Send your photo(s) to marketing@vogels.com before May 31, 2012 with ‘Photo Contest’ as the subject of your email. Please include your name, address, email address and telephone number in the e-mail. You will receive a confirmation of your participation.

• You have the consent of all persons in the photo before submitting the photo
• Watching television is the central theme of the photo
• The TV doesn’t have to be in the picture
• Photos are preferably landscape size
• Size: minimum width 2000 pixels

PURPOSE
An international competition saluting the next generation of talent, which will play an important role in the future of magazines, media, the web, design and photography.

DESCRIPTION
Hearst 8×10 Photography Biennial is a competition to identify and promote new and emerging talent among photographers in the United States and abroad. Eight (8) winners, chosen every other year, will:

Showcase selected works in an exhibition under the title, “8×10″ in the Alexey Brodovitch Gallery and the Hearst Gallery at Hearst Tower in New York City.

Be published in the accompanying “8×10″ catalog and on www.hearst.com and www.hearst8x10.com.

ENTRY FEE
There is no entry fee for the competition.

ELIGIBILITY
All U.S. and international freelance, amateur and professional photographers and students, 18 to 35 years of age. Applicants may apply as individuals, or as collaborators.

Hearst Corporation full-time employees and former employees are not eligible. Freelancers for Hearst Corporation are eligible to apply.

Applicants may only submit one (1) entry, which may include up to 16 photographs. Sizes may vary.

SELECTION METHOD & CRITERIA
Award recipients will be selected by a juried committee of ten (10) individuals consisting of Hearst Magazine editors, art directors, renowned photographers, curators and gallery owners. Decisions of the committee are final. Award recipients will be chosen on the basis of exceptional talent, strength of portfolio and capacity for future distinction in the field of photography.

All entries must be submitted to www.hearst8x10.com between the dates of April 1 – August 1, 2012. Entries received after this date will not be entered into the competition. Hearst will not be responsible for lost or damaged entries.

USA Student Photo Competition 2012 Judged by renowned photographer and author Henry Horenstein the theme for the competition is FAMILY.

The brief has been left deliberately simple to encourage a diverse range of images. What does the word FAMILY mean to you?

Win a four-night photography trip to Varanasi, with the professional photographer Jon Nicholson as your guide

This year is going to be all about London. With the Olympics, the Paralympics, and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee all taking place in the next 12 months, 2012 will be a spectacular, and memorable, one for the capital. To reflect this, we are looking for photographs that celebrate London in all its diversity. From a sunrise above the Thames to a knees-up in an East End pub, how you interpret that is up to you.

Judging your efforts will be the professional photographer Jon Nicholson, who has wielded his camera in some of the world’s most spectacular locations and has a particular interest in London this year. “I will be photographing London 2012 as an official photographer to the Olympic Games, helping to produce the official commemorative book, which is a dream come true,” he says. “For this competition, I’m really looking for someone to surprise me, with a view of the capital and its inhabitants I haven’t seen before. So don’t just think of the obvious landmarks — London is huge, and there are great shots to be had everywhere from SE17 to NW1.”

Also judging is Gordon Innes, CEO of London & Partners, the official promotional organisation of London (visitlondon.com).

The competition runs from January 1 until July 31. Each month Jon and Gordon will choose one winner, who will have their picture published in the Travel section. That photo, together with a number of monthly runners-up, will be chosen to go through to the grand final, for a chance to win a four-night holiday for two people to the holy city of Varanasi in India, led by Jon, courtesy of the luxury tour operator Abercrombie and Kent (0845 618 2148, abercrombiekent.co.uk). The trip departs on September 29, and includes flights, transfers, some meals and accommodation, as well as expert tuition from Jon.

Terms and Conditions – The Sunday Times “Photo2012” Competition

1. The competition will run on www.thesundaytimes.co.uk website (“the Website”) from 1 January 2012 to 31 July 2012. The competition will comprise 7 monthly competitions. Each monthly competition will end at 23:59 on the last day of that month, so the last competition will end at 23:59 on 31 July 2012.

2. The competition is only open to amateur photographers. A professional photographer is someone who makes a substantial portion of their income through photography. Entrants must submit a photo in response to the theme of “London”. Entries must be the original work of the author and not previously published. Entries must be submitted as a digital image of at least 3 MB and no greater than 10 MB, and at least 150 dpi. Images can be cropped, and exposure or colours may be corrected, but images may not be otherwise manipulated, eg adding or removing elements, or combining elements. Only landscape-format photos can be accepted.

3. If any photography features a recognisable individual, entrants are responsible for ensuring that the individual has consented to the use of their image. Entrants will retain copyright in their submitted entries, however, by entering, all entrants licence TNL a worldwide royalty-free perpetual licence to edit, publish and use each entry in any and all media (including print, online, eReader, smartphone and tablet) in connection with the competition, for the purpose of an online or physical exhibition, and for other publicity and news purposes.

4. There will be one winner each month. The prize is that the winning photo will be printed in the Travel section of The Sunday Times, either inpaper or digitally. The winner will be the entrant whose photograph, in the opinion of the judges, demonstrates the greatest flair, technique and originality. The judges will also select a number of runners up each month at their discretion. Runners up will not receive any prizes. Each month’s winners and runners up will be selected only from the entries received in that month.

5. Each monthly winner and runners up will be entered for the final prize. Only monthly winners and runners up are eligible for selection for the final prize. The final prize is a trip for two on a 4-night photographic workshop to Varanasi in India with Jon Nicholson, departing 29 September 2012. The prize includes international flights, transfers, some meals and accommodation. All other costs are the responsibility of the winner. The winner and guest are responsible for ensuring that they have valid passports, visas and travel insurance. The prize must be taken on the dates specified. If the winner is unable for any reason to accept their prize, the prize will be re-judged.

6. The competition is open to all residents of the UK aged 18 or over, except employees of Times Newspapers Limited (“TNL”), Abercrombie & Kent and their associated, affiliated or subsidiary companies, and their families, agents, or anyone connected with this competition, including the third party promotional partners.

7. An eligible entrant must be an individual and must submit an entry in the form provided by TNL under this promotion including their name, postal address and e-mail address.

8. By entering, all eligible entrants agree to abide by each and all these terms and conditions. TNL reserves the right, with or without cause, to exclude entrants and withhold prizes for violating any of these terms and conditions. TNL reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions.

9. All winners will be notified by email within twenty eight (28) days from the closing date. All reasonable endeavours will be made to contact the winner during this time. If a winner cannot be contacted or is not available, TNL reserves the right to choose another winner from the entries which were received before the closing date.

10. There is no cash or other alternative to the prizes stated, the prizes are not transferable and no part or parts of the prizes may be substituted for other benefits, items or additions.

11. The winners may be required to submit valid identification before receiving their prizes.

12. The judge’s decision is final and binding on the entrants. No correspondence will be entered into.

13. TNL will not be liable for technical, hardware, or software failures of any kind or lost or unavailable network connections which may limit or prohibit an eligible entrant’s ability to participate in the competition. Other than death or personal injury arising from the acts or omissions of TNL, or their employees, TNL will not be liable for any loss or damage arising out of the winner or their guest’s enjoyment of the prizes.

14. By entering, any subsequent Prize winners agree to allow the free use of their names, photographs and general locations for publicity and news purposes during this and future promotions by TNL or any associated or subsidiary company of News International Limited.

15. Uses of personal data received by TNL in the course of the promotion are subject to the privacy policy found on the Website. Winners’ names may be published on the Website.

16. Completion and submission of a registration slip or e-mail will be deemed acceptance of these terms and conditions.

17. TNL reserves the right at any time to cancel, modify or supersede the competition (including altering the Prizes) if, in their sole discretion, a competition is not capable of being conducted as specified. TNL reserves the right to substitute a Prize of equal value in the event that circumstances beyond their control make this unavoidable.

The Manuel Rivera-Ortiz Foundation for International Photography is once again seeking entries for outstanding work in global and social documentary photo reportage. Covering such pressing issues as health, poverty, oppression, war, famine, religious/political persecution and upheaval, human migration and immigration, the landless and much more, photographers of all nationalities who are 18 years of age or older are encouraged to apply.

Prizes: The photographer whose proposal is selected to receive the $5000 USD grant will be immediately contacted, followed by a public press announcement to be made sometime in late July.
