To celebrate the world premiere of Alice, we are delighted to announce that we are holding our first ever photography competition.

Scottish Ballet’s Alice is an extraordinary adventure into the depths of imagination. After tumbling through a camera lens, Alice finds herself in a strange dreamlike place. Drifting through episodes from Lewis Carroll’s treasured stories, she meets a series of fantastical characters who each impatiently try to teach her something, and guided by Carroll himself, she has to rely on her wits to find her way out.

The winning entries will feature in:

- The Alice programme
- A Scottish Ballet Alice exhibition, to be displayed in the National Library in Edinburgh
- A private exhibition for friends and sponsors of Scottish Ballet
- A virtual exhibition on Scottish Ballet’s website

The overall winner will also receive two tickets to an Alice performance of their choice and a copy of our book Scottish Ballet: Forty Years.

Enter the January competition for a chance to win a two-night break at Amberley Castle in West Sussex

The weekly competition ends at midnight every Sunday. The monthly competition ends at midnight on January 30.

JANUARY COMPETITION

The monthly prize is a two-night midweek break (Sunday to Thursday night) for two people at Amberley Castle, a von Essen hotel in West Sussex . Hidden away for 900 years near the picturesque village of Amberley in the chalk South Downs, Amberley Castle is a magnificent historical treasure with beautiful landscaped gardens and 19 luxurious hotel bedrooms and suites, many with four-poster beds and all featuring Whirlpool bathrooms.

The hotel’s facilities include two restaurants, lounge areas, tennis court, croquet lawn, gardens and lakes, 18-hole professional putting course and a stunning thatched-roof tree house complete with rope bridge.

The prize includes two nights’ (in a double or twin room, subject to availability); full English breakfast and one dinner (3 courses for two people).

To enter the January competition send your best shot as a Jpeg e-mail attachment along with your name, address and telephone number to travelpictures@thetimes.co.uk. The competition closes at midnight on January 30, 2011.

If you have entered before send us a different picture. Clearly state the location of the photograph and include a short description. Only one entry per person per week and it must be a new entry each week. The competition is open to amateur photographers only. Entrants who send more than one picture per week will be disqualified.

Optimalprint UK is running a Business Card Photo Contest. Participants may submit their best photos and win 1,000 GBP or a Canon EOS Digital SLR camera and 500 free business cards.

The contest is open to all countries but the UK town that submits the most photos will be additionally featured on the Optimalprint UK website.

The contest opens at 12 noon on Monday, January 18, 2010 and will end on Thursday, March 18, 2010 at 12 noon GMT. Winners will be notified by email and announced on the website by Thursday, March 25, 2010.

National Talking Newspapers and Magazines

Snap away and help us raise money! We’re running a photo competition and the pick of the crop will be included in our fundraising calendar for 2010. The calendar will be professionally printed and there will also be an exhibition of the winning photographs.

The closing date for entries is 19th June 2009.
