Image requirements: JPEGs, saved at the quality setting 10 in Photoshop, Adobe RGB (1998), and must be 1920 pixels on the longest dimension.

Copyright: The copyright in all images submitted to the Competition will remain with the copyright holder who will be credited. Each entrant grants to the Organisers a non-exclusive irrevocable licence to reproduce, publish and exhibit their awarded image(s) in relation to the Competition and the Exhibition.

Traditional, contemporary, avant-garde, creative and experimental works that include old and new processes, mixed techniques, and challenging personal, emotional or political statements will be welcome. Digital or traditional photography or combinations of both are accepted, as well as toned images.

There is no limit in the quantity of images to be submitted, but the minimum is five single image. Any single image can be submitted to one or several categories. Online submitted files should have a resolution of 72 dpi, contestants should be able to provide high resolution files if requested for publication. Image requirements: 8 bit JPEG files in RGB profile, the largest dimension should be 1280 pixels (width or height), resolution of 72 ppi, JPG compression quality of 7 or 8.

* Copyright: Artists are the only owner of the copyright their images. Submitted photographs may be reproduced for the purpose of marketing and promoting WPGA contests and awards for 2 years.

Contest Rules

1. Entrants are limited to three (3) entries per category.
2. Each entry must have a completed registration form attached.
3. Entries must be received by the Mississippi Wildlife Federation no later than June 1, 2011.
4. No submission may be manipulated prior to entry (adding or removing objects that were not there when the photograph was taken, no special effects). Cropping is allowed.

Instructions

* Submit unmatted, unframed photograph as an 8X10 only. This rule applies to digital, film and slide photographs. Photo must be printed on a good quality photo paper.
* Attach completed registration form on back of each entry.
* Attach envelope in which negative is enclosed on back of each entry with your name and negative number printed on the envelope. If negative strip contains the negative of more than one entry, indicate the correct negative number on the envelope. If you submit a CD instead of negatives, make sure the JPEG image is 300 DPI and sized to an 8×10 for enlargement purposes. All photographs submitted may be placed on one CD. Slides are also accepted but photographs must be printed for judging purposes.
* Enclose $10.00 entry fee and mail to the Mississippi Wildlife Federation, 517 Cobblestone Court, Suite 2, Madison, MS 39110 no later than June 1, 2011. This fee is $10.00 per person NOT per picture entered.

Prize

The first place photograph in each category and age group will be enlarged courtesy of Digital Imaging Group , LLC (601/939-2008) to an 8X10 for display during the Mississippi Wildlife Extravaganza scheduled August 5-7, 2011 at the Trade Mart in Jackson, MS. These photographs will also be displayed on our website, www.mswildlife.org. From these finalists one will be picked as the Best Overall Photograph in both the Adult and Youth Divisions and awarded a $300 gift certificate each. New is the Judges Special Recognition Award, which may or may not be awarded annually. If awarded, the winner receives a $100 gift certificate. The winning photographs will also be published in MWF’s magazine, Mississippi Wildlife (possible cover) and other MWF publications. The overall winner in each division will be announced on stage at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, August 7, 2011. Pictures, negatives, slides and/or CDs will not be returned unless specified on the registration form. Finalists’ enlarged photographs may be used by MWF as display material for educational programs. Appropriate credit will be given to photographers.

Note: By entering photographs in this contest I grant the Mississippi Wildlife Federation unrestricted rights to use said photographs (not to be resold or for profit) as long as appropriate credit is given the photographer.

Wildlife photography is one of the best ways to show to a broader public the values and the necessity of hunting and wildlife management. It is for this reason that the CIC seeks the help also of non-hunting photographers to help the CIC fulfil its goal for the conservation of nature and all its living creatures.

Theme: “Birds in their natural habitats”
This means that pictures of birds taken in your garden can also be accepted.

Only photographs of wild animals, birds or mammals, alive and free in their natural environment can be accepted. Also, generally speaking, all types of photographs considered contrary to the ethics of wildlife photography will be excluded.

A photographer may submit a maximum of 3 photographs in total. A summary of the circumstances under which the photograph was taken (text file or
in print).

Digital photos:
These must be submitted in 2 formats on a CD:

* a copy identical to the camera copy (this copy will not be included in the evaluation for the contest);
* a copy of the version with which the photographer wishes to enter the competition (colour balance rectification etc. is permitted, but no montage);

The following formats can be accepted: RAW, JPEG and/or or Sprite; Candidates are strongly advised to add their name, postal and email address on the CD, preferably in a normal text file (.txt).

The National Wildlife Refuge Association
announces the 2009 Refuge Photo Contest – a digital photo contest to showcase
America’s national wildlife refuges.

The National Wildlife Refuge System has no equal when it comes to conserving our nation’s rich wildlife heritage. The over 550 refuges are home to more than 700 bird species, 220 mammal species, 250 reptile and amphibian species, and over 200 species of fish. Such a diverse array of wildlife means that the Refuge System contains both rare and common types of habitat — everything from southwest desert to arctic tundra. For 40 million visitors each year, refuges provide a welcome retreat to natural surroundings. That’s why we are pleased to conduct this exciting national wildlife refuge digital photo contest.

You can submit your National Wildlife Refuge System images on this site beginning May 1, 2009. There is a $10 entry fee per entrant.

Images can be of birds, mammals, insects, fish, other animals, plants, people, or refuge scenery, in short, almost any sight at a national wildlife refuge can be submitted for this contest.

Entries for the 2009 Contest must be submitted by July 15, 2009. Results will be announced in October 2009 in connection with Refuge Week.

Results of the contest will be prominently featured on our website. Selected photos will be added to NWRA’s digital Refuge Image Library, an online searchable gallery of images taken at national wildlife refuges. Click here to see a collection of all the winning images from the 2008 Contest.

Prizes will include the great products shown on the right. In addition, all photographers submitting an entry to the General Category will receive a complimentary one year membership in the National Wildlife Refuge Association (NWRA), the only organization working exclusively to protect, enhance and expand the National Wildlife Refuge System. Winning entries will be selected by two rounds of judging. The first round will select at least 200 images to be included in the NWRA Refuge Image Library. The second round will result in the selection of the top prize winners.
